Surfing

Arugam Bay is abundant with surf breaks suitable for every ability. Peanut Farm, Elephant Rock, and Baby Point are perfect for beginners and intermediates alike, offering mellow, sand-bottom right-hand breaks. 

As you advance your skills, Lighthouse and Pottuvil Point provide more challenging intermediate breaks with stronger right-hand waves. The crown jewel of Arugam Bay is Main Point, recommended only for advanced surfers. 

This reef-bottom, right-hand point break can produce 10-foot barrels on big days, making it the ultimate spot for seasoned surfers.

The Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR) is the official currency. Credit cards are accepted in most hotels, restaurants, and larger shops, but it's a good idea to carry cash, especially in rural areas. ATMs are widely available in cities.

Yes, Sri Lanka is generally considered safe for tourists. However, like any destination, it's important to stay aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas or when traveling alone. Political situations can change, so stay informed about local news.

Transportation options include buses, trains, tuk-tuks, and taxis. Trains are scenic but can be slow, while buses are frequent and cheap. Tuk-tuks are great for short distances, and taxis are very reasonably priced for longer journeys.

Recommended vaccinations include Hepatitis A, Typhoid, and Tetanus. Malaria is not common, but it's advisable to take precautions against mosquito bites to avoid diseases like Dengue fever. Drink bottled water to avoid stomach issues.
